All too often, it is assumed by people that if a food is good for us humans, then it must also be fine for our beloved pets. The truth is, this is absolutely NOT the case. A fair few of the foods we eat should not be given to dogs. (The same also goes for cats, although the list is different once again!)

A dog’s digestive system is quite different to our own. Without getting into too much complex detail, there are differences in their body chemistry, meaning that certain foods are not tolerated well by them and may be harmful.

The “classic no-no example” is chocolate. It’s not good for dogs and they react negatively to it. It’s sad to think that people are harming their beloved pet while thinking that they are giving them something special.

The only real solution is to have a proper list of what is considered “ok” and what is not. Today we discovered a great page which lists 20 “people foods” that are considered fine and tolerable by dogs. This is important information and if you are a dog owner you might even consider printing out this list and attaching it to the fridge or keeping it somewhere else handy.

We also have a list of 20 Foods That You Should NEVER Feed To Dogs – check it out here: http://www.lovable-friends.com/list-of-foods-you-should-never-feed-to-dogs/

Ok, here is the link to the full list of 20 “People Foods” That Are Safe For Dogs: http://www.bestbullysticks.com/blog/101-dog-care/20-people-foods-safe-for-dogs-101-dog-care-tips-tip-84/ (via web archive)

Note – although these foods are generally considered safe for dogs, it is of course possible that your dog may have an allergy or sensitivity to any of the foods on this list.

Please share this info as it might save a dog from harm. You can pin our picture on Pinterest and it will get seen by lots of people, also you can share it on Facebook – but don’t forget to include the link! 🙂
