VIDEO: Funny Dog Stomping On Its Shadow

When a German shepherd sees “another dog” of his size on the floor trying to get the better of him, he can’t just stand still and let the incident pass by. Here’s a surprising video by granfatha777 of a dog pouncing on his shadow. Does the dog think the shadow is prey, enemy or maybe just another dog friend to play with? This vid has already gone viral – and it isn’t hard to see why. How this German shepherd acts towards his shadow is both adorable and hilarious!

The dog’s treatment of his shadow as a somewhat separate, tangible entity reminds us of how Peter Pan’s jokey shadow falls of and detaches from its owner. Like this German shepherd, Peter Pan himself would struggle to catch and seize his separated shadow in the Walt Disney animated film. Unfortunately, Peter Pan in the end got his shadow “sewn up,” whereas our Mr. Shadow Catcher dog never had a chance to begin with. Well, at least he tried…

While it may undeniably appear amusing, a dog becoming seemingly obsessive with chasing or jumping at shadows could be a cause of alert. According to dog whisperer Cesar Milan, it may mean two things: either your dog lacks the necessary amount of activities, exercise, and play to release some pent-up energy or your dog may have some insecurity issues going on. This reflects poorly on the part of owner who might be depriving his dog of physical and/or mental stimulation. Shadow chasing could indicate that your dog is bored! German shepherds are a breed that loves strenuous activities and daily workouts. They require a few doses of “mind sharpeners” that can mentally challenge them and want to be kept busy all the time. So the next time you witness a German shepherd desperately pursuing a shadow, consider asking yourself: “Is this dog bored?”
