There is an even more fun way to play the moving cups game and that is to play it with your dog. All you need is a flat surface, three cups, and a treat for your pup. Tell your dog to ‘sit’, then line up all three cups in front of him, and tell him to ‘wait’ as you hide the treats under one cup. Then shuffle the cups around in front of your dog and then tell him to find which cup the treat is in. This is a good exercise for your dog to make him follow basic commands and to sharpen his senses.
The video shows a Golden Retriever playing the game with his human and he’s doing such a good job in locating which cup the treats are in! It was as if he was born to dominate this game.
But the actual reason why the Golden almost always guesses the right cup is because the retriever breed has an otherworldly scenting ability. Because of their uncanny smelling abilities, the golden retriever is the ideal breed for many important jobs. They have been known to accompany people on search and rescue missions, act as guide dogs for the blind and sniff out bombs and drugs at airports.
They are also considered to be the fourth smartest dog breed in the world making them highly trainable and excel in obedience trials. If you are planning to train a Golden, harsh training methods won’t work. Golden Retrievers often respond very well to positive and upbeat training styles. With this breed, a good play time is all the time!
