This video features Yuki the talking Shiba Inu. She seems to be very well-trained but according to her owners, she used to be such a crazy pup; very stubborn, always tearing things up and aggressive towards other people. But through her owners’ training and ending patience, she was able to overcome her undesirable behaviors. Since then, Yuki has come a long way and was even awarded the Best Talking Dog on CW’s World Dog Awards on January 2015!
Lots of people find themselves drawn to the Shiba because they are conveniently sized, handsome, easy to groom and quiet indoors. But they also have some characteristics that some may consider troublesome. If you are thinking about getting a Shiba Inu, consider the following:
1. Shibas were born to hunt. Sure, humans can give them a perfect life but their place in this world is not under a roof. Their true nature is to be outside hunting birds and small animals. That means Shibas can never be off the leash: They will take off at full speed after anything that runs.
2. They shed all year round. You’ll find hair and fur all over your clothing, upholstery, carpeting, etc.
3. They will often try to escape. To keep your Shiba Inu in, a 6 to 8-foot fence is recommended and it should not be chain link or anything else climbable. You may also need to sink wire into the ground along the fence line to stop them from digging. Gates should have the highest quality locks.
4. Shibas have an independent mind of their own and can be manipulative. Many are willful, obstinate, and dominant and will make you prove that you can make them do things.
