Welsh Corgis are small herding dogs that originated in Wales. They are also known as the “Dwarf Dog” based on the word “Corgi” which means “tiny” or “dwarf”. There are two distinct breeds of Welsh Corgis that are recognized worldwide, namely Pembroke Welsh Corgi and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi. This breed is related to the Dachshund breed.
The Pembroke Welsh Corgis are playful, outgoing, protective and bold while the Cardigan Welsh Corgis are more affectionate and devoted. Given these traits, this breed usually excel in herding, obedience, agility and ball playing events.
Their life span ranges from 12 to 15 years. They were originally used as farm dogs but now they are used as companion dogs. They love human interaction and like to always be close to their owners. Corgis are notorious barkers and they will most likely chase small animals and cars.
Welsh Corgis are prone to some illnesses. They most common health problems that they have are obesity, eye problems, and spinal problems.
