Watch Dog Protects Lost 3-year-old

In Cooperstown, North Dakota, 3-year-old Carson Urness went missing after playing in the yard… however seven hours later, he was found under the protective cover of the family’s pet dog Cooper. The boy was found in good health and only had cold feet, thanks to the dog who kept him warm for hours. Cooper is a Golden RetrieverGerman shepherd mix who was adopted by the family after he was left on the side of the road.

Dogs are known to be ‘man’s best friend’ because of their loyalty and willingness to protect their masters without second thoughts. This story is just one of many which proves that claim. But why do dogs display such loyalty?

Experts say that dogs are only loyal because of their self-preservation instinct. They know that if their owner is hurt, their food and shelter arrangements are at risk. Some also think that the reason why dogs display loyalty is because of their ancestry of being pack animals. A well-trained dog is submissive to the owner and is ready to defend the pack leader in the presence of perceived or actual threats.

There is much debate over these claims but one thing is for sure: A dog will definitely consider you to be part of its family as much as you consider it to be part of yours…
