As an owner or a trainer, it is our task to show our pets the things that they should and should not be doing. Potty training may be one of the most vital things you should be teaching your dog, but usually is a long process that can take months.
In potty training, one very important thing you should do is to feed your dog on a consistent schedule. This will of course make the dog’s bathroom needs more predictable. Two of the factors that can make this potty training successful are controlling the dog’s environment and efficiently supervising the dog.
You can control the environment of your dog by having them on a leash, setting up a play area for them, or getting them inside a crate. Don’t force the dog to be on a leash, play area, or inside a crate. You can gradually introduce these things to your dog by giving him treats for the first positive responses.
You can take your dog out to urinate or poop once in an hour or every 2 hours. Let the dog take their time and once he does their business, reward him with a treat. If the dog has an accident by urinating in your living room, it might annoy you but it its advised nowadays not to punish him for doing so. Continue to do the house training until the dog doesn’t make any accidents.
