1. This dog breed originated in Switzerland. These mountain dogs were originally used as general farm dogs and draft animals for pulling carts. They are highly muscular.
2. This breed is called Berner Sennenhund in German and one of the four breeds of Sennenhund dogs. The three other breeds include: Appenzeller Sennenhund, the Grosser Schweizer Sennenhund or the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog and Entlebucher Sennenhund or Entlebucher Mountain Dog.
3. These dogs usually come in tricolor, which in this case is a combination of black, rust and white.
4. The temperament of Bernese Mountain Dogs include the following: well-behaved in the house even though they’re outdoor dogs at heart; very affectionate and go along well with children; very patient; and go along well with other pets and around strangers.
5. The usual medical problems of this breed include muskoskeletal problems. Examples of these medical problems are arthritis as well as cataract and cancer. If you have this kind of dog, make sure to take care of them properly and give him or her lots and lots of love.
